Wonderful Apartment

What a wonderful, historic apartment and NO stairs! Our stay in Amsterdam was perfect, the weather was wonderful and staying right on the canal was so fun as all of Amsterdam was on the water enjoying the spring weather while we were there. The little garden was beautiful, quiet, and it was lovely to sit and watch the birds and the roses blooming. Anke was a wonderful hostess, the location was not only convenient, but made you feel like you lived in this beautiful neighborhood.

My partner and I spent 4 nights in Amsterdam before heading to Paris at the end of September 2009. Anno 1685 was everything we had hoped it would be and more. It's close to everything and the apartment is comfortable. We loved the garden and it was great to be able to cook in such a lovely kitchen. Anke wasn't in town when we visited, but her husband was extremely gracious and helped answer any questions we had. I wish I could keep Anno 1685 a secret, but it's too good a place to stay to not share it with others. If you can book Anno 1685, consider yourself fortunate! Thanks, Anke, for making everything so wonderful!

I stayed here twice on my travels through Amsterdam. Firstly at the end of November and then again for another few days from the 1st - 4th of December. I have honestly fallen in love with Anno1685. It's funny - I chose the accomodation from the trip advisor website since it was the most highly rated non-hotel accomodation there - and it has lived up to everything everyone else recommended. Firstly, my experience started with the incredibly kind and very gracious host - Anke. Anke is like talking to a friend straight way. Then when I arrived, I walked into this incredibly cosy kitchen, onto the bedroom and looked out into a fully enclosed gorgeous green courtyard that was totally secluded - allowing me to lay in bed with the curtains open and enjoy the special touches Anke has put together to make it feel so comfortable. From the bookshelves in the courtyard, the little tea candles, the garden, to moving inside to the very comfortable double bed (that is NOT the common twin mattresses pushed together I keep finding in Europe - thankfully!!!!), the fully stocked kitchen with all the appliances I could want, the nice refurbished ensuite, the laptop available so I could surf the internet and explore where I could travel / how to get there / events that were on etc - this place is perfect!!!! I will be back!

We have visited Amsterdam several times and this fis the sweetest and cosiest apartment we have stayed in to date. Great facilities and the location has been the best so far! We have really enjoyed our stay here and feel privileged to have spent it in a 17th century canal house. The little outside area was a bonus and a lovely place to relax in after a day's sightseeing. We visited Haarlem and the Frans Hals Museum, and were greatly impressed by the Cathedral square with its lovely Saturday market. We ate in several local Amsterdam restaurants and never had a bad meal, but could particularly recommend the Portuguese restaurant in nearby Kerkstraat, especially if you enjoy seafood. Lichtjes in het tuintje...

Heerlijke dagen hebben wij hier gehad, leuk om zo even te denken dat je hier woont en s'morgens even met de deuren open er de bootjes voorbij ziet komen...Met lichtjes in het tuintje gezeten. De 9 kleine straatjes met onze pubers bezocht, musea zo dichtbij. Perfekt, wij hopen zeker nog eens terug te komen, bedankt! Familie Lelieveld

We found Anno to be an extremely comfortable and cosy base for exploring Amsterdam. The location was perfect and made our first visit to the city very enjoyable. Good to indicate to Anke that you are coming by car: there is a perfect parking facility around the corner, not expensive compared with most garages around, which Anke can organize for you. We hope to visit again and ceertainly recommend Anno 1685 to our friends and family! And lastly, thank you for all the thoughtful additions which made the apartment a wonderful place to stay. Wir haben viel gesehen, aber nicht genuegend Zeit um das wunderbare Aoartement richtig zu geniessen - alle Attraktionen sind zu Fuss erreichbar - man kommt so gern immer wieder "nach Hause". We hadden een superweekend, boottocht, fietsen en al! Het appartement is smaakvol ingericht, in hartje Amsterdam, heerlijk bed, gezellige tuin en terrasje, leuke restaurantjes om de hoek en ook de mogelijkheid om zelf te koken in de mooie keuken. Het was een groot feest! En wat een ligging op de leidsgracht, dankje Anke! Gido en Katinka Suikers.
